Exercise Report Card 11: Walking Wonders

It’s been a manic week, so I’ve been mainly limited to walking (and this is going to be a short post as it’s totally catching up with me). I was amazed to find that I’d dropped another kilo at this week’s weigh-in, so don’t let anyone tell you that walking isn’t exercise!

This week’s report:

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 10

TTTThe random-ness of the Ten Thoughts Tuesday challenge continues!

Here are this week’s musings:

1. This week, I’m thinking about body image.

2. Not so much to do with me, but how it affects young girls.

3. Barbie is under fire yet again for promoting an unrealistic body image.

4. Which may be true, but I’m of the mind that how your mother deals with her body image is likely to have a more profound impact on a child’s body image than a doll.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 9

TTTAnother Tuesday and another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post.

Here are this week’s musings:

1. This week, airbrushing has caught my attention.

2. I do think it is getting out of control – we can no longer look at a photograph and think we’re looking at something real.

3. Which is bad enough for adults, but how can you convincingly explain to a child that some photos are just ‘pretend’?

4. For an illustration of just how far airbrushing / photoshop has gone, check out this link (please be aware of some strong language in the notes below the pictures).

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 8

TTTThis blog challenge enters it’s eighth week! Another Tuesday and another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post.

Here are this week’s musings:

1. This is going to be a random post as it’s almost midnight!

2. Parenting has changed my conversation.

3. Instead of discussing Italy’s political stalemate, this evening I found myself having an in-depth discussion on society’s messages to our children.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 7

TTTThis blog challenge keeps on going! Another Tuesday and another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post.

Here are this week’s musings:

1. Oops, almost forgot to write this this week!

2. BabyBoy and BabyGirl seem to be getting one bug after another.

3. I’m hoping it’ll build up their immunity…

4. BabyBoy is going through a super-cute phase of launching himself on me for hugs – love it!

5. ‘Never grow a wishbone, daughter, where your backbone ought to be’ is such an awesome quote that I’m thinking of having it framed and put up in the nursery.

6. But I’ll delete the word ‘daughter’ so that it can be relevant to BabyBoy as well as BabyGirl.

Exercise Report Card 7: Guilt Trip and Secrets

This week I have been very aware that taking care of myself takes up time, and this makes me feel guilty. Rationally I know that I need to take care of myself. But without an acute medical reason to exercise / eat well / rest, my emotions tell me that I have no excuse to ‘waste’ time on myself.

Ah, the joy of mummy guilt.

Anyway, here’s this week’s progress:

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 6

TTTAnother Tuesday and another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post.

Here are this week’s musings:

1. Have left this late – got to be quick as sleep is calling me.

2. One way to diet – get a mouth ulcer. Stops you eating and makes you drink loads of water. Ow.

3. It’s been 20 years since the James Bulger murder.

4. I remember the reports when I was a child myself.

5. But now I realise re-reading them that my parents must have shielded me from the horrible details. Continue reading

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 5

TTTAnother Tuesday and another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post!

Here are this week’s musings:

1. A friend of mine told me today that she is ‘cautiously pregnant’ with twins.

2. Basically she’s in massive denial.

3. I can relate – I reckon it took me about 15 weeks to get my head around being pregnant with twins.

4. But, just like all the other twin mummies that I couldn’t understand while I was pregnant, now I love having twins….

5. ….and I genuinely mean that (at one point I never thought I would).

Ten Thoughts Tuesday 4

TTTThe last Tuesday of January dawns and with it another Ten Thoughts Tuesday post.

Here are this week’s musings:

1. This week has been all about starting a diet.

2. I’ve come to realize that I need to reign in my portion sizes that have been getting out of control, and stop eating ‘pre-emptively’.

3. I can’t say I’m happy about it though.

4. Children’s exposure to media has also been occupying my thoughts this week – something bothers me about a 7-year-old singing some of those pop songs out there.

5. But then I’ve always been one to focus on the lyrics.  Continue reading
